New research shows that binge-watching television can adversely affect your health. Binge-viewing involves excessive watching of back-to-back TV shows in a single sitting. It has become prevalent across the world with the advent of online streaming and downloading services. Researchers from the University of Michigan in the USA and the Leuven School for Mass Communication Research in Belgium surveyed 423 people aged 18-25 on their TV-viewing habits. Their research found that binge-viewing greatly interrupted sleep patterns. Co-author Professor Jan Van den Bulck said: "Our study signals that binge-viewing is prevalent in young adults and that it may be harmful to their sleep." The researchers asked participants about their sleep quality, levels of fatigue and prevalence of insomnia. They also enquired about their frequency of binge-watching programs on televisions, laptops and desktop computers. Over 80 per cent of the participants reported binge-watching, with 20 per cent...

When and why TV died in the last years for the youth ?

When and why TV died in the last years for the youth ? Since 2010 the youth from 16-24 watch a more than a third less, since 2015 thats are 9%, TV and the children from 4-15 watch even a bit fewer as them its now under 100 minutes per day this are 12% since 2010 thats said a statistic from Ofcon and its an adversed trend. This statistic said also that in the categorie "all viewer" are more minutes then in 2014. For the Televison Industry its suboptimal anyway, because only the people who watch more TV then in 2010 are older then 55 years and 3 out of 10 from them say that TV worsened. The reason for that is there are more options for the youth to watch films or series for example Netflix every user of that watch 2,5 hours per day on this and the qualitiy of the TV is not so good as there and in the TV there are more reapts its easily to say that is not so intresting for the youth. Kids who were born after 2008 for example maybe doesn't know the traditional TV. Tha...

The History of Streaming

The History of Streaming On 5 September 1995, ESPN SportsZone streamed a live radio broadcast of a baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees. Tw o Thausend of the ir subscribers w orldwide used cutting-age t echnology devolped by a Seattel start up Compony named Progressive Networks. By the mid-2000s the vast majority of the Internet traffic was HTTP - based and content delivery networks (CDNs) were increasingly being used to ensure delivery of popular content to large audiences . S treaming me dia, with its hodgepodge of proprietary protocols – all mostly based on the far less popular UDP – suddenly found itself struggling to keep up with demand. In 2007 a company named Move Networks introduced a technology and service that once again would change the industry: HTTP-based adaptive streaming.   HTTP-based adaptive streaming solutions soon followed: Microsoft launched its Smooth Streaming technology in 2008, the same year Netflix...

The consequences of social media and video portals

The consequences of social media and video portals The youth nowadays is very influenced by different social media platforms and video portals like Netflix or YouTube. Because of those influences the culture of the youth did change. For example the youth in Germany. Many young people watch American series or they follow American people on Instagram and Twitter. Our language, behavior and habits are influenced by those platforms very much. The youth often uses English words when they talk to each other, which is called anglicisms. We eat American food, go to American fast food restaurants and buy our clothes in American clothes shops. The time we spend with social media is very long. Nowadays, it's a part of our life. It's natural to use those kind of platforms or to watch American series on video portals. We also use smartphones to get information but the part of socia...

Why we are addicted to use our Smartphones?

Image
Why we are addicted to use our Smartphones? Today, all people are addicted to their smartphones. This started because the big corporations wanted to start a new community. So they tried to sell their products (smartphones ...) to make money and become famous. If they are famous, they can sell more products. Thus, they can start a new community with their own products. People also feel as if  they are a part of an extended self with smartphones. This is an addiction. They do not want to lose their new expanded self, so they become addicted to their smartphones. This is a reminder for caring relationships. This phenomenon is slowly beginning to take over our lives. In the near future and even today, people talk more and more behind screens than face to face. Even the people standing next to each other use their smartphones to communicate. Nowadays, technology has been partially manipulating our brains. A really important system for this is the reward system. The r...

TV watching or online streaming?   The trend of streaming services continues;   Maxdome, Netflix, Amazone prime, iTunes - streaming servcies change the way we watch and use our TV. But what if we completely change to only watching online series and using streaming services? Would it change our community? Only a few years ago computers started to change the way we search something and that change continues. Today we have multitype ways of using the internet: computers, laptops, phones all of these things are able to let us use the internet and we use this chance. Things like that are helpful but they are also replacing the TV and the remote (which happened years ago with the remote). But why are they replacing the TV? And why do we use this chance of watching series with streaming services rather than continue watching those on our TVs? Social Media already changed the way we live and it changes all the ...
